They make a tun of good beer

The only brewpub in Atlantic City is the Tun Tavern, a restaurant, brewery and bar in between the Convention Center and The Walk on Michigan Avenue. All the beer is made on premises, with five house selections that are always on tap, such as the All American IPA that uses Jersey Fresh hops, as well as several seasonal specials at any given time, such as its Imperial Pumpkin Ale, Berliner Weiss and Boardwalk Brown Ale. The casual bar is welcoming on any given night for anyone looking to relax with a beer you can’t find anywhere else.

It fermented the Marines

The pub’s history goes back to 1685, when the original Tun Tavern was founded in Philadelphia. George Washington, Ben Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson all toasted at that original tavern, but its largest claim to fame is that the first two battalions of the U.S. Marine Corps were recruited there. Historic signs still mark the spot of the original building on the waterfront. The new Tun Tavern opened as a tribute to that famed first location, and every year on Nov. 10 they host a Marine Corps birthday celebration.

There’s always entertainment brewing

The tavern has live music year-round, varying from three- and four-piece bands in the summer four nights a week to solo artists in the winter on Fridays and Saturdays. The performers usually play from about 8 p.m. to midnight or later, keeping it unobtrusive enough to listen to while having a meal, but also cool enough to just enjoy while sitting at the bar with a beer.

VIP means very inexpensive pints

The tavern’s VIP card, which anyone can sign up for on site, includes a bevy of benefits such as half-price margaritas and dinner entrees on Mondays, $8 pitchers and 35-cent wings on Wednesdays and $1 off beer, wine or cocktails any time. I’d say that’s a tun of deals, but I already used that pun.

They have nice jugs

If you want to bring some Tun Tavern beer home or give it as a gift, you can buy a half-gallon growler jug of brew for $20 and refill it any time for $12. If you fill it up six times you get the seventh refill for free. Sounds like a challenge to me.
