Go Go Gadjet has been one of the best cover bands performing at the New Jersey shore for a while now, recognition they’ve earned by also being among the most creative.
Eight years since forming, they’re still evolving. Lately, they’ve been incorporating more electronic dance music into their sets, pushing the envelope with what crowds expect a live band to play.
“If you look at the top touring acts in terms of what’s grossing right now, it’s all DJs playing electronic-based music,” lead singer Jeff Tomrell says. “We’re really leaning hard toward playing those EDM-style songs.
There is no better indication of the band’s talent in that regard than its recent show at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s MIXX nightclub. It is the first live band to perform at the venue, which regularly hosts world-class DJs, and it’s safe to say not many others could fill the space like the group did.
“Without a doubt, that was one of the best performances we’ve had in terms of people dancing and grooving to the music,” Tomrell says.
The band’s second show at the club is scheduled Friday, March 1, but just because they’re now filling megaclubs doesn’t mean the guys won’t continue rocking the spots they have been for years now, such as the Ocean Drive in Sea Isle City this summer.
“We’re working on new elements,” Tomrell says. “Whether they work or not, we’ll see, but you have to swing to hit a homerun.”
