A welcome sign of spring in Atlantic City is the reopening of bars, clubs and pools for the season, all of which greatly expand the options for partying both day and night through the summer. From rooftop pool parties to beachfront bars to clubs with outdoor areas overlooking the ocean, there is no shortage of places where you can enjoy the sun or moonlight with drinks, music and large, like-minded crowds looking to have fun. Below are five things you need to know about some of the most popular, most unique and newest places in the city where going out really means partying outside and enjoying the warm weather while it’s here.
Harness the solar energy at daylife clubs
Atlantic City is following the dance steps of Las Vegas and Miami by bringing DJs out of the darkness to get people up and acting crazy in the middle of the day, especially at C5 on the roof of The Chelsea hotel and at the new HQ Beach Club on the Boardwalk at Revel. At C5, local open-format DJs and electronic dance music producers set up underneath a cabana by the pool while guests move in the water and shake in their lounge chairs. At HQ Beach Club, which opens for the first time on Memorial Day weekend, some of the biggest EDM hitmakers in the world are expected to show the city a level of daytime excitement it has never seen before. Both are primarily only open on weekends, with HQ Beach Club also planned to host parties on Thursdays.
Hope you like your hurricanes sandy
The city has had a number of beach bars for a decade now, with mainstays such as The Beach Bar at Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, Beach Bar at Trump Plaza Casino Hotel and Bally’s Atlantic City’s Bikini Beach Bar all reopening Memorial Day Weekend (despite the ownership or management of all three having recently been in a state of flux). Their numbers will expand this summer with LandShark Bar and Grill at the new Margaritaville complex at Resorts Casino Hotel and drink service on the sand from Bungalow Lounge on the Boardwalk and California Avenue.
You should never be bored on the Boardwalk
The city’s famous wooden walkway is lined with areas to grab drinks where you can bask in the sun or find shelter in the shade. The Boardwalk Beer Garden at Caesars Atlantic City, Worship Surf Bar at Showboat Casino-Hotel, Harry’s Oyster Bar and Seafood at Bally’s and the aforementioned Bungalow Lounge are among the must-see stopovers for adult beverages and bites. There is even a somewhat still-secret waterfront bar at The Steel Pier called the Diving Bell Biergarten that’s worth checking out.
Get your rocks off by the docks
For a more relaxing experience outside, there are several quality places on the bay and the inlet to try such as Wonder Bar on Albany Avenue, Back Bay Ale House on New Hampshire Avenue in the Gardner’s Basin area and The Deck at Golden Nugget Atlantic City on the Frank S. Farley State Marina. All these locations are open day and night, with The Deck bringing in full cover bands daily through the summer.
Rage against the rising of the light
When the sun goes down there are still more than enough places to keep the party going, from the beach bars that stay open until 2 or 3 a.m. to indoor clubs with outdoor areas. HQ Nightclub at Revel has a large patio with an astounding view overlooking the ocean from several stories up, while The Pool After Dark, The Foundation Room and Casbah nightclubs all also have exterior places to enjoy the fresh air. Some nights, the parties may go until the sun rises again, at which point you know another party is only a few hours away.
