The Eagles: The good news for Eagles fans is that hell apparently has continued to freeze over.  The band that famously claimed they would never reunite has done so yet again and is bringing its famous blend of country influenced California rock to the jersey shore Sept 1st  and 2nd.  One would imagine its hard to resist the urge to tour when you are a band as beloved as the Eagles.  Not every artist can claim the title of “highest selling American band in U.S. history”.  That’s no small feat.  Known for their crisp, glassy California harmonies flawlessly blended with some of the most intricate guitar work one can find anywhere, this band may feature members well into their 60’s, but their live show can still stand up to the best in the biz. The Eagles, Revel, Ovation Hall, 8 p.m. Sept. 1, 2. $95, $155, $175, $275.

Huey Lewis and The News and Joe Cocker:  At first one may be inclined to scratch their head upon hearing of the pairing on this double bill-  80’s pop rock and 60’s blues?  But if you consider the singers of each respective act for a moment it becomes clear that they both have a clearly defined similarity in their delivery.  The raspy-voiced, charcoal-in-the-throat tone is shared by both Huey Lewis and Joe Cocker, although each approach its use in very different ways.  Huey Lewis and The News spent a good period of time in the mid to late 80’s as darlings of the MTV era.  Mixing soul and rock influences in such hits as “Happy to Be Stuck With You” and “Doin’ It All For My Baby”, Lewis and his backing band provided an upbeat soundtrack to an upbeat decade.  Joe Cocker’s style has always been heavily rooted in the blues and is likely more famous for his cover versions of Beatles songs than anything else (he did however win a Grammy in 1983 for the song “Up Where We Belong”, a duet with Jennifer Warnes.) In the end this show is definitely likely to have the crowd tapping their feet and clapping their hands…once they finish scratching their heads of course. Huey Lewis and The News and Joe Cocker, Tropicana, Showroom, 9 p.m. Aug. 3. $62, $77, $82, $97, $115.
