WHO ARE THEY: Current and former Allman Brothers Band members Warren Haynes and Allen Woody teamed up with drummer Matt Abts in 1994 to form Gov’t Mule. Combining Southern rock with a bluesy, psychedelic sound, Gov’t Mule released their debut self-titled album in 1995. Two live albums and three more studio albums would follow before the band was hit with a tragedy in August 2000 when Woody was found dead in a New York City hotel room. After some time, the band eventually decided to carry on and they’ve been going strong ever since.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Over the years Gov’t Mule has always been able to keep things interesting by playing a mixture of their older stuff along with some covers and newer material. Like any great jam band, Gov’t Mule switches up setlists dramatically from night to night, so every show is unique and you never know what song you’re going to hear next. Recent setlists have included songs such as “Get Behind the Mule,” “Are You Experienced?,” “When Doves Cry,” “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” “Hunger Strike” and “There’s No Way Out of Here.” Music fans who appreciate gritty, nasty classic rock ’n’roll with bluesy guitar solos and jam-friendly beats will love this band live.
SHOW INFO: Tickets are $35 and $45, and the show begins 7 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the House of Blues at Showboat Casino-Hotel.
