An event that is becoming a family-friendly tradition in Atlantic City is returning to Boardwalk Hall Oct. 5 and 6.

The Atlantic City Boardwalk Rodeo is in its third year and is bringing plenty of events for cowboys and cowgirls from across the country.

“We are very excited to be bringing the Atlantic City Boardwalk Rodeo back in 2013,” A.C. Boardwalk Rodeo Event Chair Janet Markowitz says. “The event was a huge success the past two years and I believe that the spectator turnout for this year will be even greater since we have moved the show dates to October. Our hope is that the event will become more visible to both locals and visitors over the summer months and that it will entice them to return to Atlantic City in October for a fun family event.”

Events will include:

Bareback Riding: A rider must stay on a bucking horse for 8 seconds while holding on with just one hand.

Tie-Down Roping: Cowboys on horseback will chase a calf around the arena until they can catch it and tie it down with their lassos.

Saddle Bronc Riding: Similar to bareback riding except with a saddle, cowboys have to stay on this wild, unbroken horse for eight seconds.

Team Roping: Teams of two will work together to rope a steer.

Barrel Racing: An event for the cowgirls, they have to complete a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels in the quickest time.

Steer Wrestling: After dismounting a horse, a cowboy has to wrestle a steer to the ground by its horns to stop the clock.

Bull riding: Perhaps the most popular and well-known event, a cowboy has to ride a bull for eight seconds while holding on to just a rope.

Besides the main events, the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association will hold a Championship Rodeo Camp for ages 8 and older 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5. Learn everything from Roughstock events, to livestock safety, injury prevention, tips from pros, chute procedures, riding equipment and more.
