The national chain The Earl of Sandwich officially opened last week inside Showboat Casino-Hotel. Created by the descendents of John Montagu, who supposedly is the Earl who invented putting meat between bread in 1762, the restaurant is located right near the self-parking elevators in the former Canal Street Bread & Sandwich area.

The Orlando, Fla.-based chain brags that it creates “the world’s greatest hot sandwich.” Signature sandwiches include The Original 1762 with roasted beef, sharp cheddar and cream horseradish sauce; The Earl’s Club with roasted turkey, smoked bacon, aged Swiss, lettuce, Roma tomatoes and sandwich sauce; and The Full Montagu with roasted beef and turkey, aged Swiss, sharp cheddar, all the fixins and Earl’s Mustard Sauce. All of the breads and desserts are baked on premises, and the Angus beef is roasted in-house daily.

There are also salads, wraps, side dishes and desserts, as well as breakfast sandwiches. Earl of Sandwich is open 24 hours daily. All 13 hot sandwiches are priced between $5.99 and $6.49, which is inexpensive for a casino restaurant. A breakfast menu is also offered.
