There are several theories as to why Easter has traditionally been known for decking oneself out in stylish, new clothing. Some believe it started back in 300 A.D., when Roman emperor Constantine declared that his court, after weeks of wearing the same dull, boring clothes throughout Lent, must discard their old frocks and wear only their finest new clothing on Easter Sunday.

In our country, Easter traditions as we know it weren’t celebrated until after the Civil War, because prior to that, Puritans and Protestants didn’t really celebrate Easter – or much of anything, for that matter.  After the war, however, the churches saw Easter as a source of hope for Americans, so worshipers traded the dark colors of mourning for much happier and brighter colors of spring.

In the 1870s, the New York Easter Parade began. Women and men decked out in their newest and most fashionable clothing would strut their stuff up and down New York’s tony Fifth Avenue. The parade became one of the premier events of fashion design and apparel retailers soon leveraged the parade’s popularity and used Easter as a marketing tool to sell fancy garments. The holiday, in terms of clothing retail sales, practically became as important as Christmas and toy sales.

Today, people still enjoy donning elegant clothing on Eater Sunday. To that end, below please find where you can find the best Easter finery - for the entire family - that A.C. has to offer.

CACHÉ at The Quarter at Tropicana

Caché, best known for dressing style-conscious women any time of the year, certainly does not disappoint for Easter. Like their pretty pink sleeveless dress with a flirty peplum flounce at the waist. Or go for one of the many other fantastic day dresses carried at this terrific shop. Insiders’ Tip: Take 40 percent off Caché’s entire Spring I collection.  And don’t forget to check out its sale room where items start at an unbelievable $9!

TIFFANY & CO. at The Pier Shops at Caesars

Tiffany & Co. is, of course, known worldwide for its glamorous jewelry. But it has branched out to other accessories, too. To top off your Easter ensemble, check out Tiffany’s beautiful, bright-colored bags and clutches - including some that are made of wicker - from its new spring Tiffany Leather Collection.

The Tiffany Blaine Clutch is not only adorable, but the ideal size for a handful of little items such as lipstick, keys, your cell and a few other incidentals. It’s made of wicker and leather and comes in two spring-y colors: Geranium and Tiffany Blue. It also has a chain to strap over your shoulder for those times when your hands become too full with yummy treats including Peeps and chocolate bunnies.

The chic Tiffany Ava Box Clutch is comprised of leather and comes in three different textures (pebble grain, textured leather or satin) as well as three different colors (geranium, daffodil, light camel).

HUGO BOSS at Revel and The Shoppes at the Water Club

Right now, Huge Boss’ latest trend is inspired by the man who feels at home in the world’s biggest metropolises – from New York to London to Tokyo and beyond. Elegant linen suits or two-button styles in luxurious seasonably light wool blends have an easy, breezy silhouette. The key look presently is a medium blue suit paired with a slim-cut light pastel blue shirt, rounded out perfectly with great calfskin shoes and belt. For Easter, though, perhaps try a pop of color such as lime green or pastel pink to better fit this festive spring occasion.

JANIE AND JACK at The Pier Shops at Caesars

Janie and Jack, that super adorable children’s shop in The Pier, offers distinctive, finely crafted clothing and accessories for the little ones in your life (preemie to size 6). It has a charming array of special occasion dresses and suits for little children such as a baby blue tulle dress for girls and dapper plaid blazer and bow tie for boys. Your children will no doubt be the sharpest dressed kids on the block.

Naturally, no woman’s or girl’s Easter outfit would be complete without an Easter bonnet (with all the frills upon it, natch!) But, no one wants to spend a lot of money on a hat that is probably only going to be worn for a couple of hours. So “head” on over to sister stores Icing and Claire’s Accessories at Tanger Outlet, where you can find fanciful headwear for women, girls, pre-teens and tweens for only about $6 to $15.

The Big Deal

PERFUMANIA at Tanger Outlet

Get a whiff of this! Perfumania has a new BOGO promotion going on right now. Buy one item at regular price and get the second for only $9.99. This promo goes through April 15 and some exclusions do apply.
