If that sentiment doesn’t awaken your senses, then perhaps these exquisite men’s and women’s fragrances, found throughout Atlantic City’s chicest shops, will.

Top Drawer at The Waterfront Shops at Harrah's Resort

 

Innocence never comes into play when you spritz yourself with Gucci Guilty ($75). Created for the contemporary rebel, it’s the very scent of defiance. It has a sensual and striking oriental floral fragrance, with top notes of pink pepper, heart notes of lilac and base notes of patchouli and amber.

The guy in your life will appreciate Armani Aqua Di Gio Pour Homme ($75), a resolutely modern and masculine fragrance born from the sea, sun, earth and the breezes of a Mediterranean island. Aromatic and woody in nature, you’ll notice marine notes, fruits and herbs. Fun fact: Armani Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme is an Allure Magazine “Best of Beauty” Award Winner.

Just Cavalli at the Shoppes at The Water Club at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

 

In this flamboyantly cool boutique, you’ll find the following fragrances created by Italian designer Roberto Cavalli:

Just Cavalli Women ($60) is a romantic scent that’s perfect for a first date or an intimate dinner. Featuring the spicy tones of cinnamon, bergamot, powdery musk and white cedar wood combined with light, smooth hints of bamboo and vanilla, the scent will turn heads but never be overwhelming.

Just Cavalli Men ($60) is subtle and nuanced enough to wear for a variety of casual events while still remaining entirely masculine. Just Cavalli's spicy essence results from elements of rosemary, sage, coriander, cardamom and ginger, among others.

Just Cavalli Blue ($60), also for men, is a rugged, casual scent that's an excellent choice for any occasion. It offers a woodsy ambiance that works well for the mature man. Blue’s dynamic scent combines engaging elements such as pepper, mint flower, bergamot, lychee, balsa wood and grey amber.

Just Cavalli Pink ($60) - for the ladies, natch – is a floral scent that mingles notes of hibiscus, peach, rosewood and more. It’s subtle, casual and perfect for spending the day shopping with friends or heading to the office.

Hugo Boss at Revel and The Water Club

Leave it to Hugo Boss to come up with an array of super sexy and incredibly masculine fragrances to suit any occasion. 

For men who prefer woodsier scents, any of the following should suffice:

HUGO Just Different (5 ounces, $72) is a vibrant, modern scent with a cool twist to “inspire whatever you do.”  Mint leaves open the composition, leading to freesia and basil, then Cashmeran molecule of a musk - woody - spicy scent.

BOSS Bottled (3.3 ounces, $67) is fresh and sharp with a warm woody base. Fruity top notes are balanced with florals, spices, sandalwood and cedar.

BOSS Selection (3 ounces, $67) begins with fresh green notes, spicy peppercorns, florals, cedar leaves and anise, followed by patchouli and cedar wood.

There’s also HUGO Green “Boss in Motion” (5 ounces, $72) which combines the smells of cognac, sage, tangerine, nutmeg, cedar, patchouli and sandalwood.

HUGO XY for Men (3.3 ounces, $65) has notes ranging from pear leaf and cedar to bergamot and basil, plus patchouli and musk.

The intense BOSS Bottled Night (3.3 ounces, $67) opens with lavender, birch tree and African violet, followed by warm woody nuances of Louro Amarelo tree and sensual musk.

If your guy enjoys wearing a fragrance, but doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by the scent, Hugo Boss has options there, too.

BOSS Pure (2.5 ounces, $67) is a marine sport fragrance – ideal for boating - that contains citrus, lily, hyacinth and mossoia wood. It’s a combination of citrus, spicy and a touch of floral.

HUGO Element (3 ounces, $65) smells of clean, aquatic calogne and cedar wood with hints of spices such as ginger and coriander. Wear Hugo Element to the office or out to lunch.

Fresh and energetic, BOSS Bottled Sport (3.4 ounces, $67) is aimed at men with a competitive spirit. You’ll smell pink grapefruit and aromatic spices such as lavender and cardamom.

Made specifically for hot summer days, BOSS Orange “BOSS in Motion” (3 ounces, $65) is a youthful, aromatic and invigorating scent that’s cool and fresh due to mint and passion fruit mixed with sharp and spicy with geranium flower and vetiver grass.

Francesca's Collections at The Quarter at Tropicana

This fun frilly store filled with froufrou dresses, fancy accessories and fab footwear, also carries its own line of fragrant perfumes.

Francesca’s Collections Signature ($28) scent is a Moroccan floral blend with fresh bergamot, sensual jasmine and creamy vanilla. 

Their Indigo Waters ($28) scent was inspired by the islands and is a fruity, floral blend infused with tropic floral jasmine, violet and a whiff of blonde woods.

Francesca’s newest fragrance is Tuileries ($28). It, too, has a fresh floral scent, but this one evokes a smells of a Parisian gardens. It has crisp top notes of citron and apple, as well as aromas of soft white amber and musk.

This boutique-style shop is more than apparel and accessories. They have a great selection of designer fragrances such as these long-standing classics: Vera Wang Princess ($45), Flora by Gucci ($85), Angel by Thierry Mugler ($95) and Kenneth Cole Black ($52).

However, they also have today’s hottest scents, such as Meow! by Katy Perry ($45). A rich follow-up scent to Perry’s Purr, Meow! has a soft sexuality that’s appropriate for use during any time of day. A pairing of honeysuckle, pear, creamy vanilla, musk and amber, Meow! embodies Katy Perry’s energy and spirit.

This Italian house of style is heavy on apparel and accessories by Versace. So it makes sense that they carry Versace fragrance, too!

Versace Bright Crystal Fragrance for Women is sheer sensuality - a precious jewel of rare beauty characterized by a fresh, vibrant, flowery scent.  ($89, 3 ounces; $69, 1.7 ounces)

Versace Yellow Diamond, also for women, is a captivating fragrance for today’s modern woman who’s confident in her charm and glamour.  ($89, 3 ounces; $69, 1.7 ounces)

Versace Crystal Noir Eau de Toilette is a “magical” fragrance with an ultra-feminine Oriental/floral scent. Its olfactory pyramid is minimalistic to enhance the elegance of the ingredients. The jewel-like bottle, inspired by the facets of a diamond, is understated yet sumptuous. ($89, 3 ounces)

Versace Pour Homme Eau de Toilette is a classic yet contemporary fragrance for men.  It blends essential ingredients of the Mediterranean and hits aromatic notes that match today’s man: knowledgeable and self-confident, dynamic and entrepreneurial, forceful and passionate.   ($58, 1.7 oz.)

Perfumania at Tanger Outlet, The Walk

Of course, if you prefer a huge selection, hit Perfumania at The Walk.  The shelves there are stocked with colognes and perfumes by all of today’s biggest designers and celebrities, such as Calvin Klein, John Varvatos, Tommy Hilfiger, Yves Saint Laurent and Britney Spears - even Donald Trump.

In business for nearly 25 years, Perfumania is America's largest fragrance retailer specializing in the sale of genuine designer fragrances. They also carry a big selection of bath and body, hair care products and kid's fragrances too.

Bottom line is, when shopping for a new fragrance, don’t rush. Spray the scent on paper strips and smell as many as you can. Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, spray one on each wrist and then move up the forearm a bit. Give the fragrance time to “settle” on your skin so you can experience the full effect. That could mean as much as a full day. The reason? The fragrance might wind up smelling completely different on your skin than it does on paper.

Remember, the scent you choose to wear is as personal - if not even more so - than the apparel you don. As the above-mentioned Ms. Beneth believes, “Fragrance is your walking biography.”
