Once upon a time, hats were worn by fashionable folks everywhere – from the Boardwalk to restaurants to church services, even just cruising down the street.  In fact, in those days, one rarely left the home without covering one’s head.

The bonnets of by-gone days evoked a sense of style and panache that, sadly, dwindled away to near nothingness in more recent years.

Gone were the chic chapeaus of yesteryear, replaced – and mocked – largely by lackluster baseball caps, mischievously dipped to the side and worn by persons who probably never even swung a bat, let alone played on a team of any sort.

Fortunately, hats are back with a bang this season.  And A.C. has all the coolest shapes and styles to keep you looking hot when the sun’s a-sizzlin’.

HAT EMPORIUM (THE QUARTER AT TROPICANA)

As you might expect from its name, Hat Emporium has an enormous variety of headgear from caps to fedoras – and even more costume-y pieces such as the “King Tut” and a Viking helmet.  But it’s their all-American cowboy hats that we’re into this summer.  Sold in an array of colors, there’s nothing cooler on the beach than a pair of cutoffs and a straw cowboy hat – for men OR women.

TALK OF THE WALK (THE PIER SHOPS AT CAESARS, THE QUARTER AT TROPICANA)

Talk’s incredibly gorgeous sun hats with the outrageously large brims are simply stunning for when you’re out sunning.  Hand-made in Madagascar, this once French-ruled island perhaps had a bit of France’s couture rub off on them, because these hats would look just as striking on the runway as they do on the shoreline.  Pay particular to the one with the pleasingly plaid print (see photo)!

Insiders’ Tip:  Originally priced in the $70s, these stunners are all now on sale in both Talk locations for only $40.

AKA (THE QUARTER AT TROPICANA)

This fab men’s shop in The Quarter always carries the hottest trends for guys.  So of course they have cool hats for hot temps.  Some of their more popular ones include fedoras by Goorin Bros. ($52 to $58) and Carlos by Carlos Santana ($38).  We especially love the sharp Cuban Fedora by Goorin Bros. ($52), which was inspired by Cuba's artistry and calm, cool and collected island lifestyle.  Another classy cap by Goorin Bros. is its Straw Ford ($42).  It’s a flat cap comprised of lightweight raffia paper straw and it comes in summer's hottest colors.

LIFE IS GOOD (TANGER OUTLET THE WALK)

The entire family can find a cap here to suit their needs this summer.  This shop has a wide selection of “Chill Caps” (soft-brimmed caps) and “Cadet Caps” (soft-brimmed caps with a slightly more squared-off look) with their characteristic positive and upbeat sayings or amusing images, such as hearts or peace signs.

Insiders’ Tip:  Look for big summer savings in “The Big Deal” below…
