Christina Perri didn’t take the usual route to pop stardom. Instead of logging years on the road doing club dates, the stage-shy singer-songwriter made her name by recording tracks in her living room and posting them on YouTube.

WHO IS HE: Darius Rucker is perhaps best known for being the lead singer and guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning 1990s rock band Hootie & The Blowfish. However, after the band cranked out hit after hit in the ‘90s, seemingly nothing was heard of Rucker in years since. That all changed a few years ago when he emerged as a country music star. His first single off the album “Learn to Live” was “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” and made him the first African-American with a No. 1 hit on the hot country songs chart since 1983. That hit was followed up with two more No. 1 singles with “Alright,” and “It Won’t Be Like This For Long.” His second country album was released in 2010 and including the No. 1 singles “This” and “Come Back Song.”

WHO IS HE: In 1988 Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock scored a major rap commercial breakthrough with “It Takes Two.” At a time when rap music was still more of a cult phenomenon than a mainstream one, the song was a standout as a Billboard Top 40 hit. At that time it was tough to find a club, prom or junior high school dance that wasn’t playing “It Takes Two,” and it’s remained one of the most well-known, influential and important hip hop songs of all time. The duo followed it with “Get on the Dance Floor” and “Joy and Pain.” In 1989 Rob Base released his debut solo album “The Incredible Base,” which failed to match the success of the “It Takes Two Album.” Five years passed before the release of Base’s next album “Break of Dawn.”

WHO IS HE: After a few years of moderate success, Neal McCoy first made a big splash in the country music world in 1993 when he managed to score two No. 1 country singles with “No Doubt About It” and “Wink.” The Jacksonville, Texas, native’s third Atlantic Records album, “No Doubt About It,” went platinum and he was off and running. “You Gotta Love That” came next and produced the hit singles “For a Change,” “They’re Playin’ Our Song” and “You Gotta Love That.” A 1996 self-titled album included the hit single “Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye.” McCoy’s chart success began to wane as the decade wore on, but he rebounded in 2005 with the Top 10 single “Billy’s Got His Beer Goggles On.”

WHO ARE THEY: As one of the final doo wop groups to make a name for themselves in the early 1960s, The Duprees scored a string of hits with their big band arrangements of pop standards. The height of their career came in 1962 and 1963 when they had hits with “You Belong to Me,” “My Own True Love,” “Have you Heard” and “Why Don’t You Believe Me.” When the British Invasion hit, the Duprees were relegated to the oldies circuit.

WHO ARE THEY: Based out of Branson, Mo., The Cat’s Pajamas are a five-piece vocal harmony group founded by Brian Skinner that has toured the world, making a name for themselves over the course of the past seven years. 1 Cuba Libre has a brand new cool little “outside” bar called The Shack. OK, so The Shack is not exactly “outside,” but it is outside of Cuba Libre — right next to the IMAX Theater in The Quarter at Tropicana, in fact. It was designed to look like a beach bar in Old Havana — which is perfect for The Quarter, since that is the overall decor theme there. It’s only opened on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to close (generally 4 a.m.), but they have a neat laid-back seating area where you can nosh on empanadas or chill with a frozen mojito or frozen sangria ($8.25 each), which are served in adorable branded coconuts. You can even stroll around The Quarter with your coconut concoction.

1 Back Bay Ale House still likes to focus on beer. Back Bay Ale House opened in 2003 as just that — an ale house. While its focus is more than just beer these days, they still take pride in serving some of the best beers out there . You’ll find names such as Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, Allagash White, Flying Fish Farmhouse Summer Ale, Guinness and Back Bay Sunset Ale.

1 Golden Nugget Atlantic City has two fabulous outdoor party scenes — The Deck and H2O Pool + Bar. The former is a terrific spot to pull your boat up to and enjoy lunch and a cocktail or beer. It’s incredibly colorful with bright, cheerily hued umbrellas in blue, red and green and an enviable view of the marina. The latter is more of a daylife scene for relaxing with the beautiful people. It’s littered with sleek lounge chairs and chic cabanas in warm reds, oranges and yellows. Cabanas, which have their own TVs and refrigerators, can be rented for the day or week — price upon request. On Saturdays and Sundays at H2O you’ll find the hottest local DJs such as Chris Devine.

1 The world’s top DJs play here. Some of the biggest names in the music world — when it comes to disc jockeys, at least — play at HQ Beach Club. We’re talking names such as American-born Armand Van Helden, Steve Aoki and Kaskade; Dutch DJs Sander van Doorn and Tiesto; Tommy Trash from Australia and so many more. The DJs get propped up in their own booth and spin international electronic music from a state-of-the-art sound system with an equally high-tech LED screen. DJs generally begin to spin in the mid-afternoon and go until whenever the party stops.

1 It’s a beach bar that’s open 365 days a year. There aren’t too many beach bars in Atlantic City that remain open year-round. But Landshark Bar & Grill in front of Resorts Casino Hotel does. With a full-service outdoor bar, cornhole games and a gas fire pit, you can bring your own beach chair and enjoy a cocktail in the sand any time of the year. It’s also a fully functioning enclosed bar and restaurant with a covered deck. So you can stay warm in the offseason, but still go outside for photo ops if you want — even in the colder weather. In fact, this past winter Landshark was packed with wanna-be photogs who just had to capture an image of the winter’s main attraction — snow on the sand.

1 They have about 10,000 square feet of sand. What makes Bar Anticipation Beach Bar (commonly referred to as Bar A) at Trump Plaza different from other beach bars, is that they have roughly 10,000 square feet of sand and palm trees — making it the largest beach bar in A.C., at about twice the size of the second biggest. You feel as if you’re in an island oasis. The place is loaded with ample seating from an assortment of beach and lounge chairs, as well as adirondacks. So you can literally sit in the sand and view the ocean as their wait staff serves you beachy favorites such as grilled fish tacos ($15), which are three flour tortillas filled with grilled ahi tuna, shredded cabbage, tomato, avocado and wasabi, or the “Bar A” Burger ($11), which is 8 ounces of chopped sirloin topped with sauteed onions, tomatoes, lettuce, bacon and American cheese.
